I will probe the reason for the clash between security agencies and IPOB – Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi



The governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has asked suspects who carted away weapons from security agencies during recent attacks on police stations to return them to the appropriate security agency. Ugwuanyi made the demand on Tuesday, September 1, after an emergency security council meeting with all the heads of security agencies in the state, According to “This Day” reported.

Ugwuanyi said he will probe the reason for the clash between security agencies and IPOB. He said the weapons were reportedly carted away after some residents attacked Railway Police Station, Ogui and Unity Police Station, Abakpa on August 30, 2020. The governor also expressed concerns over the clash between security agencies and members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) which resulted in deaths on both sides. He disclosed that his administration was going to probe the root causes of the clashes with the aim of forestalling future re-occurrence. Meanwhile, the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reacted to the killing of Igbo youths in Enugu state, urging southeast governors and other notable leaders to intervene in the matter. This was disclosed in a statement by the group’s deputy national president, Kingsley Dozie, and national publicity secretary Chief Osmond Nkeoma in Owerri. According to The Sun, the Igbo social-cultural organisation strongly condemned the spilling of innocent Igbo blood under any guise and the clash between Nigeria’s security agents and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In another news, Mallam Shettima Yerima, the president, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), has sent a warning message to some ethnic groups including IPOB to stop peddling lies against him or be ready to face the full wrath of the law. reports that Shettima in a media statement issued on Saturday, June 5, said he and his group have been the targets of propaganda and lies put together by illegal and secessionist groups in the country to score cheap political points. The AYCF leader lamented that the ethnic groups have been consistent in spreading lies and propaganda against him and his group in the past few months on social media.
